halving an oft day

i cot myself sheafing this mourning,
and then i tied trying my choose.
the popcorn yinyanged, its tao corning
as greensward gave berth to the blues.

went driveling oft to my woofplace
and clogged in presizedly at seven.
the cubic hold tolled off a jerkface
and bread had more film at a leaven.

then lungetime, and thyme to crees forehead,
the voice in my forehood felt faint.
it spoked of a spooklier warsaid,
and saintlier aintlier daint.

three churros for dayend dessertion
and laycheck in latent elation.
the clogout was functory whirr shun
width dogfood dude ken l. oration.

then holm and its dinned dear and moo vee
then biddybye with a comped banyan.
comp won and comped awl, slipping tubey,
an oft day not halved baaed to spannion.

bullet billet-doux

the first bullets were ball shaped.
that’s why we call them bullets:
boulet is middle french for ‘little ball.’

now we have bullet trains,
bullet points,
number one with a bullet,
and a video technique for freezing action
known as bullet time.

bullets set the bar for mass killing,
especially after the invention of the gatling gun.
the early, exciting, life-ending bullet was the acorn
from which the oak of the atomic bomb grew.

bullets and their progeny test us.
we generally fail the toughness-of-flesh test.
some of us pass the we-can-do-without-them test;
unfortunately, some of us are not enough
and never will be:
either we all pass, or, soon or late,
we’re all gone.

This is dedicated to all of us who have struggled against a bad habit and succeeded, however fleetingly.

Here are the words to the double (and double-entendre) acrostic:

YO! Quit that AWFUL habit! Play it straight
Your quality of H O P E will escalate
Obsequious, the vice purveyors win
Obliquely when the helpless rack up sins
Ubiquity might keep us on the trail
Uniqueness and good Purpose gets us hale

Astute observers will have noticed six of the letter Q lined up on the left side of the poem/array, and six of the letter P lined up on the right. Coincidence? Absolutely not. I have done my best to mind my Ps and Qs. [wicked smile]

My Goodness

Goodness as my ocelot
Prowls and stalks and pounces;
Goodness as my boss-a-lot
Finger-points and flounces.

Goodness as my wunderkind
Dazzles with precocity.
Goodness as my shark thin-finned
Counterstrikes atrocity.

Goodness as a way of life
Sculpts my face in furrows;
Goodness as my fettling knife
Carves where evil burrows.

Goodness as my diplomat
Never needs immunity.
Goodness as my welcome mat:
Dirtied with impunity.

Goodness as my racetrack tout
Urges YOU to place your
Bet on what it’s all about–
Guiding Goodness Glacier.

Many art supply stores have wooden pose-able models in sizes from keychain to full scale. The one double-track-drawn here is about four inches high. I took approximately the same liberties with flexure and expression as Gene Colan did with his renderings of Iron Man, lo these several decades past.

(About seven years ago I sent “Genial Gene” a gushing fan e-mail, praising his storytelling illustration, and he quickly and nicely answered in true gentleman fashion. Just found out three minutes ago that he died in 2011. Alas! Here’s a link for the curious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Colan )

Anyway, it occurred to me that these anonymous mannequinesques would make good chess pawns, and I’ve been into grids lately, so…

Here are the words, for the third time, sort of:

Participants should come a’board’–we’ll start ASAP
And then ‘square’ off in reenacted war or game or deal
Whine, loose or drawl: no ‘stale mate’ allowed, nor bargained plea
Nor b’rook’ing op’position’ via mattress glue–too sealy

Sift

It had a handle
With an embedded squeezable subhandle
And squeezing would make it make noise

It was called a sifter
Turned coarse flour fine
Employed handheld use of the milling concept

Some beaches have coarse sand
Some fine some unfiltered with sharpedged little shells
(The ocean’s milling has caprice)

Some life events are grainy
Some slide through the strait of the hourglass
With rollercoasteringly dismaying ease

Lapidary work makes for smoother rocks
Wax for a slidey floor
(Wearing socks has been known to cause an involuntary split)

But the hard life facts have unsmoothable grit to them
Though we swap deludings and call it ‘enabling’
(The grittiest fact  is cessation)

Smiles are smoothers
Friendships sifters
Love confectionary (sugar)
