I’ve been working on a larger-scale drawing for a couple of weeks now.

It is ambitious and sloppy at this stage. When I draw quickly it is more improv then plan, but the several acrostics do impose a sequence and a structure.

I am enjoying the different compositions that occur when I crop off details and photoedit them. They seem to evoke unsolved mysteries.

Even when the drawing is finished, the mystery of what is beyond the border will remain. That’s Life, my friends.

[The MYSTERIOUS WOMAN swings her arm downward, and the sign she is holding changes as she says “SLOW & Yield & STOP.” SAje then gyrates with increasing frenzy as she says “DANCE until you Drop.”]

This one includes a clue.

Microwaves containing messages and other information pass through our bodies an uncountable number of times a day, thanks to cell-phone technology and radio and stars. Though the above “jumbletron may seem busy unto incomprehensibility, it is laser-neam coherent compared to what a cell tower handles in a single second.
The “Rest Stop” rectangle is the simplest–one word per line, the last one hyphenated.

OS
The word Eme is “chiefly Scottish” for Friend, according to the Scrabble Dictionary. The word Os indicates a bone, e.g. “os trapezium.” It might also mean the left eye, Oculus Sinister, or Operating System.
Discussion of the other rectangles will probably occur if my manuscript-in-progress ever see the light of day.

Any questions?

After a five-year hiatus, today I resumed my n.e.s. series. I will be more consistent and frequent henceforth.
Tip of the hat to Depeche Mode–whoops, make that Crowded House–of the late 80s.

It had been bugging me that I hadn’t done a segment of my n.e.s. series for a long time, so here we are. Again we see Good Idea, Slapdash Execution, but I kind of like the primitivity this time.
The “Gare Bear Lines” emblazoned on the plane is an inside joke for those co-workers, starting with Katie Hoffman and most recently with LaShawna Douglas-Muhammad, who call me Gare Bear (or Gair Bear, as some would have it)–I am grateful for their easy-going affection. If I ever own an airplane something like this will be going on the fuselage.
