Micromanagement (Blast from the Past)

Here’s a sonnet from 2008 based on a managerial nightmare I lived through in 1996. I had just gotten to the point when I could look back with amusement on those days when I’d wake up five days a week grinding my teeth and dreading the workday to come. It took 12 years, but it took well. [smile]

Meticulousness runs from stem to sternum
In certain Middle Magistrates. Such folk
Cry foul at Boo-Boos soon as they discern ’em;
Reek of their daily egg whites–that’s no yolk.
Of course they trust their hardcase reputation’ll
Manipulate their workers to docility.
Alas, instead, Psychosis Motivational
Nit-Pickery makes flare into Hostility.
An agile Agitator’s often stepped in
Gainsaying claims of fairness by The Boss;
Emotions sizzle–nuance may have crept in–
Mud, slung in haste, wreaks Havoc, Fear & Loss.
ENsuring Workplace Harmony’s a chore–
The bossing style that wins is–Less Is More.

    love this .. I studied art in college (did pretty well, too) so we were encouraged to keep our notes and .. well, ANYTHING in hardback blank archival books.
    I still reference them 15 years later (the mere existence of spiral binding became sinful to me, just because most professors would take my entire book and read my current essays and notes, but most professors would have a fit if someone was jotting down info in spiral binding — I think I have my next WPress idea. lol. THX)

      Thank you! And Well Done on your own blog, which has great wild energy and a fine inquisitive mindfulness to it!

        thx @onewithclay .. i spent many years studying under some brilliant artists of our time. two very different practitioners and theories toward art, one madculine & one feminine .. BOTH artists of the #multicultural era, tho their work and achievemens were 100% irrevokable due to the conceptual magnatude they both transcended (of course there are many other prifessors, peers, etc but i was lucky to go from Charles Gaines, the conceptual artist, currator, theorist to Dr Amalia Mesa-Bains, the scholar from the Chicana era in California whose credentials are unsurpassed and whose work tells a broad history thru autobiographical juxtapositioning)
