Hand Not on the Bible and Laugh Emoji

The man solemnly swore/But his hand was not on the Bible/And by a grade-schooler’s standard/That means it didn’t count.

It does count, though/As a piece of the puzzle/Of this enigma of a criminal/Who loopholes his way through the rules.

“Hey, I WARNED you I was a snake,” he may say after the War.

And the Laugh Emoji will be his sword and shield.

There is nothing that says it is required to put your hand on a bible when you take the oath. John Adams put his hand on a book of law. It was George Washington who started it, and then kissed the bible afterwards. The kissing bit ended much later when one president decided not to kiss his bible, and so that tradition ended. An oath is an oath, with or without a bible. In the UK you’re asked if you want to swear on a sacred text or just affirm. He just affirmed.

You’re absolutely right, Davida. But when has a President not put his hand on SOMETHING when he was being sworn in?

Apparently, Theodore Roosevelt didn’t swear on anything at all. That’s the only one I can find.

That is fascinating, my friend! Now, in the photo I’ve seen, a smiling person IS holding up a book for Trump to put his hand on, but he seems to be ignoring it. Can’t help but think there’s some mind-gaming and/or secret-coding going on.
